Sunflowers

Say hello to the newest members of the our birdsnest — the Sunflower Duo! A warm yellow and a rich brown that feel like a summer field captured in two tiny pans of paint.

These two are extra special. Why? Because they’re made with vintage pigments. Real vintage. The kind of pigments that have lived lives longer than most of us have been painting.

The yellow comes from a mysterious little jar that was gifted to me — it used to belong to an old gentleman who mixed his own paints back in the 1970s. The pigment looked like your standard Lemon Yellow at first glance. But once I started mulling it, something magical happened. It bloomed into this glowing, warm sunflower yellow, like sunrays bottled up. I gasped. And immediately knew this needed to be shared.

The brown? A deliciously deep Burnt Umber, made with pigment from the 1960s. I love how rich and grounding it is. But I always find it a bit funny calling earth pigments "vintage". I mean… they’re literally made of earth. They’ve been around for millions of years. Does it really matter if they were dug up in the ‘60s or yesterday? 😅 Still, there’s something poetic about it.

Together, the Sunflower Duo is warm, nostalgic, and just a little bit magical. They layer beautifully, mix like a dream, and honestly? They just make me smile.

“Old pigment, new drama.” 🎨✨

Love,
Issy 💛
